Oh, Holey Ride... (OR Mom, He's Poking Me!)

Aborted Ride Day
Run Day
time- 57:33
distance- 6.1mi

It was going to be a good ride. The weather sucked at home so Sean and I decided to meet down at the airfield for some repeats or, better yet, some good distance. Or, as it turned out, stopping twice because my front tire was allergic to air. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, the Time of the Flats continues. Yesterday was a double rear tire flat ruining my ride. Today that stayed nice and tight but my front tire attracted the glass slivers. If you click on the charts on the link you can see where it happened. I think my favorite pieces of information are the little heart rate spikes while I'm not moving. Know what those are? Those are, "Get on the rim you little...." or, "I know there is glass in here somewhere! Here it is! Of course, too tiny and dug in for my chewed down nails to reach. I shall now dig a hole in my tire!" And once the integrity of the rubber is compromised, fuggetabotit. Now every tiny little suggestion of debris is going to cause Massive Catastrophic Damage to the tube. You know what the most annoying part is? Yesterday, when I went to The Bike Factory to grab some new tubes and CO2 I looked at GatorSkin tires. But at $45 each I passed. Don't need 'em yet, I thought. Sucker. Guess what I'll be buying later today?
Sean was very helpful during the first flat, giving me pointers on the best way to seat the tube and tire, helping check for glass, and talking me through using the CO2 cartridge the first time. Thou Shalt Not Explode the Tube. But after the second flat, wherein I found not one but two shards of glass in different places, I decided to call it a day. And Sean decided to point and laugh at me. And video tape me. And take pictures. Because he's a good friend and that's pretty much what I would have done had our positions been reversed.

Little bastard
Letting Diesel Dirtbag know he is Numero Uno!

Sean let me borrow his patch kit and I patched up the tire and we rode back to the cars. He decided to keep riding, which turned out to be a mistake because Puncturana, the Goddess of Tire Integrity, got his ass too. But she got him via a bee sting. Sean's allergic to bees. Benadryl to the rescue!
I needed to workout when I got home so off went the bike gear, on went the Bikilas and running shorts, Rush into the headphones, and we're off. Nice and easy run. The weather was mostly cool, which was nice because I left my water at home. Foot got a little sore near the end of the run, not really sure what that's about. Probably just that a lot of my recent runs have been on trails to pounding the pavement wore on after a while.

Get With Rhythm (With Training Invite and Bonus Video!)

Run Day
time- 45:16
distance- 4.79mi

Sunday's are about cruising. I'm trying to use my mindset from my century training to help me get into some kind of longer run groove. But just calling 4.8 miles a "longer run" is kind of annoying. Goal going forward is to get back to 5 or 6 miles on regular days and closer to 8 on long days. All without sacrificing speed. There has been a serious lack of run-centric training recently and now things need to balance back out.
I took yesterday off, no long ride. It had been over a month of early mornings and hours on end in the saddle so I decided I earned a lazy Saturday. But I did go see the Star Trek reboot in IMAX last night, and I spent the whole time geekily bouncing in my seat, so that has to count for some cardio, right? And no, I'm not sure why they re-released it for this week, but I don't care. Thou shalt not question thy gift of the Kirk.
I have this next week off of school for Fall Break, which means I don't have to wake up pre-dawn for swims. Yay! It also means that I'm planning a training session out at Ko'Olina some time in the next five days to let my body feel the swim-run-swim oddness that is the lagoon portion of the Ko'Olina Sprint Tri. So if anyone wants to join me, send me a message or comment below and we'll work out a time and day. I'd prefer Tues or Thurs, but I'm flexible. The plan is to do two or three repeats of the lagoon course. Maybe a short run afterwards, or a few extra swim laps in one of the lagoons. I'm mostly directing this at Tri Cook and Kepa, because you guys are both registered or thinking about registering for Ko'Olina, but anyone is welcome. Would be fun to do with more people. Sister Dirtbag, this means I'll be near the new Disney resort, so if you want me to look at something let me know. Hmm...I hope parking doesn't suck and ruin my plans.
And now for Special Bonus Video Time! Below is a video from the HBL website of last weekend's Century. Aside from a depressing lack of Dirtbag, which would have upped the Awesomeness Quotient (A.Q.) of the video 666%, it's pretty cool and lets all the non-islanders out there see where I got to ride and get an impression of the sheer numbers I was talking about. Also, the guy raising his hands at 3:32 is the dude I lent one of my spare tubes to near the end.

I'm Feeling Much Better Now (With Special Bonus Video Link!!!)

Run Day

time- 30 minutes

Not sure how far I ran today and I really don't care. It felt good. It was hot, my stride felt strong and quick, and I negative split the run. I wanted to make it a shorter one anyway, but the training plan actually called for a 30 minute outing. Guess maybe those people know what they're talking about after all.
Today was also supposed to be a swim morning and I even packed my stuff and set my alarm last night. When it went off I thought, "You know, I missed a bike and a run, might as well go three for three," turned it off, and crashed back out. No Duh Thought of the Day: Teaching is way way way easier when not completely exhausted.
Tomorrow is normally a rest day but I plan on making it an active rest day by going for a light, short bike ride after school.
****Special Bonus Video Section!!!****
Today I received an email from the people who put on the Lanikai Tri I just did with really cool information. They have two videos made from the race up on a website free to see. I shall now copy and paste the text of said email:
And finally, VIDEO from the ANA Lanikai Triathlon is now available for you to watch online! Boca Hawaii, in association with our newest affiliate, Triathlon Illustrated, has just posted the first of two videos from last Sunday's Lanikai race. Everyone who participated in the race appears in the first video, called My Cameo.
-To see it, go to http://www.triathlonillustrated.com
- This will take you to the Triathlon Illustrated home page. Please take the time to read the information on the home page to get full enjoyment from these videos. It only takes a minute or so to read. Then click on the Lanikai Triathlon picture, located in the right-hand column of the Triathlon Illustrated home page, and you'll be taken directly to the video. Enjoy!

I, like everyone else who completed the swim leg of the race, am in the Cameo video. My cameo happens around the eight minute mark. Can you spot the Dirtbag? The other video, while very cool, has no Dirtbag at all. Every time is shows the field I'm already gone. Still watch it, its very cool and gives a good impression of what the race was like. But expect no Dirtbag.*

*I have no idea what the hell is going on with my font now but I can't make it look like it does above. So the font has been changed at great expense at the last minute and those responsible for the sacking of the people who were sacked have been sacked.
